The Facebook Lie

You’ve seen it. You’ve probably even done it. A happy Facebook post with a happy photo attached. You know, the perfect family shot. Everyone is happy and smiling and completely adoring one another. Or, the perfect couple shot. Kissing. Looking in each other’s eyes. Smiling, totally happy, a match made in heaven. Or, the siblings, oh so sweet, playing together so nicely! Or the gloating mother over her new baby. The kindergarten graduation. The happy birthday boy. Talent show winner. Prom King. All-American this or that….. The new house, the new car, the new hat…….whatever. Facebook. You love her and [ …read full story ]

The LOVE Series – Women’s Bible Study Jodi Meiter – February, 2015 Arizona Community Church, Tempe, Arizona AUDIO   1. Love For God All of our relationships in life must be built on the foundation of God’s love for us, and our response to His love. When we love God, our life will look differently than before we knew Him. Our life should be a quest to get to know God better, and love Him more, so that we can more accurately reflect His love to the world. :: 2. At the Gates of Heaven

Have you been to the gates of Heaven? I sat and waited there for several days last week.  You see, I was watching my mother in law go through.  It was taking a while.  So we waited.  We prayed, we read scripture, we sang. There is something about being at the gates of Heaven that brings you to your knees.  It compels worship.  It draws out prayer.  And the focus is not on the one entering heaven’s gates, but the One that will be seen past the entrance. He is bold and beautiful.  Full of goodness and light.  Glory to [ …read full story ]

The Mess after Christmas

You know the feeling; heart sinks, longing; head aches, wishing; wandering, wondering, “what just happened, and why do I feel like this?” Christmas day. It’s a beautiful mess.  The before is astounding.  Hopes up.  Lights on.  Smiles bright.  Music playing.  Laughter and joy.  Anticipation and longing. It comes and goes. Like a tropical breeze so light you might miss it if you were dozing in the sun. The Advent readings, the Candlelit services, the carols on the radio; the flannel pajamas, hot cocoa and peppermint bark, gifts tucked under a tree; shopping, eating, running, slowing, sitting, pondering. Then it’s here. [ …read full story ]

When one part of the Body hurts....Restore it gently

I woke up in the early morning hours with my right hand completely numb.  I’m talking, I couldn’t feel my hand, you guys!  It was scary.  I started to pray, “Lord, let the blood go back into my hand and my fingers.”  I began to consider all of the reasons that I need my right hand.  I need it to write.  I need it to cook, clean, drive, and touch the faces of my loved ones.  And I need to use it to touch people who need to be touched.  I need it to reach out, laying on hands in [ …read full story ]

How should we respond if one of our church leaders falls into sin?

Many are asking, “How should we respond when a church leader falls into sin?” The body of Christ at our church has had a tough week.  We have had to endure the painful fallout of a Pastor that gave in to sin.  Unfortunately, we have had to live through the pain caused by a respected one letting us down.  There is a reason that the Bible says that our leaders are held to the highest standard.  James 3:1 states  “Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged [ …read full story ]

7 Guidelines for Young Love

Young Love.  An Idealized notion.  The stuff Cinderella dreamed about.  The beautiful dress, the handsome prince, the dance, the kiss, the happily ever after. But what is it really like? What is it all about?  And, what is love’s purpose in God’s eyes?  There are seven (perfect) points that I think will help in navigating the rocky years of love relationships between guys and girls before marriage. So here goes. 1.  Pray for your heart.  Pray that God would be your first love.  Pray that you would love God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength.  (Deut 6:5). [ …read full story ]

Be prepared to share

Are you prepared to share what God has been teaching you? You never know what kind of opportunity you will get when you are prepared to share your spritual journey with others.  God will provide opportunities for us to share our faith and encourage spiritual growth in others, if we are prepared.  How do we prepare to be a light and share our relationship with God with others? Last weekend, I spoke at a Friend’s retreat.  I had spent many hours, days, weeks and months preparing to share what God had placed on my heart.  I had poured over Scripure, [ …read full story ]

Real Relationships

How do we do ‘Real’ in our Relationships? My kitchen is messy.  My cupboards are cluttered. There is laundry on the couch. The kids homework isn’t finished and they just left to go play basketball.  I haven’t planned my homeschool year yet, and it started last week.  I lost the remote control garage door opener to my friend’s house where I was cat-sitting, and when my husband picked them up at the airport last night, they had to come sleep over because they had no other way to get in their house!  Thrilling, with a 10 month old. I fail [ …read full story ]
